Don’t poop your pants before you start

If you’re anything like me, there are so many exciting things you want to do with your life.

And if you are anything like me, chances are that instead of starting on your goals, you have unknowingly created a list of all the reasons why you won’t be able to accomplish them.

Often times we mentally sabotage ourselves before we even get going. We stop ourselves before we takeoff.  In the most simplest ( and not very intellectual) terms:  We poop our pants before we begin.

What is this silly Jane talking about, you may ask? What does this pants pooping look like?

Let me elaborate:

Rather than commencing the journey and taking little steps to go in the right direction, we think of reasons why we will fail and we take ourselves out of the game.

“I’m not going to bother because I’m just going to screw it up anyway.”

“There’s no point in going back to school when it won’t lead to anything.”

“Why waste my time asking that person on a date because they are just going to turn me down.”

“I’m not going to apply for that job because I’ll just get rejected anyway.”

“I’m not going to work out because I won’t see any results.”

“I’m not going to embark on that adventure because I’ll just get lost.”

“I’m not going to pursue my passion because it will just end in disappointment.”

The sad thing is that we don’t even give ourselves a chance.

We’re so close to a new opportunity, to a new discovery, but then we squash it by taking our legs out from under ourselves before we get to the start line.

I was pooping my pants quite a bit this past month with my blog. I had so many ideas I wanted to share, yet I became overwhelmed with doubt and reasons why I wouldn’t succeed. Thoughts like “What’s the point of writing a blog that won’t go anywhere?” entered into my head and I quit before my fingers could touch the keyboard. It wasn’t until a loved one pointed out my stinking thinking that I snapped out of it and began to write again (No more pants pooping for this little lady!)

So, what is it? What is it that you are doing that is sabotaging and putting a stop to your dreams? Have you already determined that you will fail something before you even begin?

Please friend, I urge you, do not take yourself out of the game with a theoretical turd. Take that first step, believe in yourself and begin.  Even if it means prairie dogging it….
